Assignment Title: Nutrition Intervention Logic Model and Budget

 

Assignment Description: This assignment required me to create a nutrition intervention and create a logic model that explains the nutrition-related issue that I addressed. I was also required to include an evaluation piece to determine if my intended population realized in improvement due to my intervention. My intervention addressed the high rates of diabetes among South Asian Americans. The intervention was targeted toward dietitians and health care providers in an effort to increase understanding of South Asian American cultures and nutritional needs to develop improved nutritional care.

 

What I learned: This assignment gave me an understanding of all the factors that go into creating a successful nutrition intervention. I was able to discover that an intervention requires more than just an idea of what problem I wanted to address. I was able to learn about the need for partnerships between organizations. Being responsible for short and long term goals of the intervention made me think more in depth about specific strategies that would be needed for the specific population and plan through all the details involved in an intervention.

 

Relevance to the profession: Designing an intervention that fits the needs of a specific population and that addresses a particular issue is something that dietitians will have to do whether it is a community intervention or an education given in the hospital. Nutrition interventions are also a financial undertaking, so having experience designing an intervention will help dietitians work in the budget.
